Wiki Wonders….

pbwiki.jpg

For the last couple days, groups have been collaborating and creating Wiki Pages.  There were 8 topics.  Those topics are:

  1. Repaso del empiezo del año y Capítulo Uno:  La escuela
  2. Capítulo Dos:  La routina diaria
  3. Capítulo Tres:  La Ropa (y Mandatos)
  4. Capítulo Cuatro: Los deportes (y los piropos)
  5. Capítulo Cinco:  La juventud
  6. El Pretérito
  7. El Imperfecto
  8. Elvis (Los pronombres)
Which topic belonged to your group?

Today, you will work on a group project (due by the end of class today) and also an individual assignment.  Be sure to read you assignment guide carefully to see what you must do.

As part of your work, you will editing and revising another group's Wiki assignment.  Be sure to read the evaluation criteria before you proceed.  Your group will also be graded on how well you edit and revise the Wiki page.  This means that you must remain focused on the evaluative criteria and the purpose of the Wiki page.

When you have read these instructions, leave a comment on this post.  Let me know what you think about Wikis so far - but IN SPANISH!  This Spanish comment counts as 25% of your in class participation today.

Lastly, a friend reminder about publishing:  SPELLING, GRAMMAR and ACCENT MARKS COUNT!  Accent marks are easy to create on your MacBooks.

To create an accent:   Hold Option + E, then click the letter you want accented.
To create a Ñ:  Hold Option + N, then N (or n).
To create a ¿:  Hold Option + Shift + ?
To create a ¡:  Hold Option + !

Wiki-Wise

Now that you understand and know a little bit about how to use a Wiki, you need to prepare your content.

Each group was assigned a topic in class.

For homework, you are to research and find resources that help RETEACH, PRACTICE, and EXPLAIN the material (vocabulary, grammar, cultural topics, etc) related to your assigned topic.

You group Wiki page will be reviewed and assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Organization of material.
  • All material connected to your page is related and relevant to the assigned topic.
  • Sources are cited.
  • Links function and are related/relevant to the assigned topic.
  • Information that reteaches is present and very helpful.
  • Information that practices and engages students is relevant and helpful.
  • Information or extra sources provided is high quality and helpful/relevant.
  • All group members have been credit at the bottom of the page by the person typing/editing/logged in.
  • A brief topical overview is present at the top of the page.

You can log in to the class wiki any tim by following the link in the LEFT COLUMN titled "TMF Wiki".

And remember, THINK BEFORE YOU POST!

We are heading off to Wiki-Land!

  • STEP ONE:  Before we go to WikiLand, WATCH this video with your groupmates.
        • (Yes, you HAVE to.)

The video will help you to better understand what a Wiki is.  This video lasts about 5 minutes (give or take).  Watch the whole thing - it HELPS, really.  In addition, you never know when I will ask you to make a teaching video yourself…… (hint hint)

Done?

Then there are a few things you need to do.
Feel free to print a copy of these if having the paper in front of you is helpful.

  • Step Two:  Leave a COMMENT on this post and tell me 2 things you learned about Wikis (if they are new to you) or 1 thing you learned about Wikis and 1 thing you learned about short videos that teach.

Stick to your topic - be thorough!  Research help on the internet - and CITE YOUR SOURCES!!!

Some notes?

Maybe these will help…

Here is a video copy of what we talked about and went over in class.  Sorry for the slow timing.  I have to find a way to make it faster.  However, at least it's now online. :)

To advance through the slides/pages, you have to click as you would for a PowerPoint or KeyNote presentation.  (I think.  This *IS* the first time I've tried to upload something like this.)

A little tidbit for you Trivia-Trivia people:

"Not everyone knows that color television was invented in Mexico.  In 1940, Mexican engineer Guillermo González-Camarena obtained the first patent for color television.  At first, Mexican authorities rejected the project and González-Camarena had to take his invention to the United States, where it spread to different parts of the world.  However, it was not until six years later that he could successfully send the first color transmission from his lab in Mexico City."

Los poemas - UPDATED

UPDATE:  Due to technical issues with this page, I am postponing the recordings/presentations until FRIDAY AND the second column verb test until MONDAY.  Do I hear a "Go Bears!" out there?

Final Project Freakout, originally uploaded by TheMaxFacts.

It happens sometimes, ya know. You wake up in the middle of the night absolutely CONVINCED that you have forgotten to do something.. something BIG too. That sickly, sinking feeling happens to all of us at some point in our lives.

As a teacher, though, that sickness looms larger than life. It's completely out of your control. Will your students get help when they need it? Will they keep you in the loop when things are crashing all around them? HAVE they even STARTED their month-long Final Project?
Yea. Worry is an illness in and of itself. I just thought I would share a bit of my latest nightmare…. please.. help me NOT make this a reality, ok?

    ¿Por favor?

Ok… A little help for those of you who missed this the first time.  FREE VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE for your PC can be found here.

where language comes from?  Sometimes we can see the connections easily, but other times… ay!  No worries though, it is its own specialty field. But before you can say "Etymologic Fun!" someone has designed an online game to test your knowledge (and/or teach you?).  Try it out!  See how you do. Cool
